As you probably already know, Davis High is a very large school, with over 2400 students and nearly 100 teachers filling up about an acre of buildings.  In order for each student to feel more secure and less like a little fish in a big pond, we have created small "schools" know as SLC's. within our big high school.  One of these SLC's (we think it's the best one, of course!), is the School of Social and Human Services, or SHS.   Our learning community has about 18 teachers, one counselor, one administrator, and most importantly, about 500 students.  Our focus, as the name implies, is to guide and instruct students who are considering careers in various fields and agencies of service, including education, law and politics, police and firefighting work, child care and development, social work and cosmetology.  All of the teachers in SHS do no necessarily teach subjects relating to those fields, but we work together to provide information and activities that relate to them, such as clubs, organizations, lunchtime speakers and activities, and direct counseling when needed.

If your interests are in these areas, we hope you will consider joining us in the School of Social and Human Services.  You will meet and spend time with many other students who share your interests and career goals, and you will be welcomed as a bigger fish in our smaller pond.  Our goal is to help students choose and succeed in the classes and activities that will help them along the career path they are considering while in high school.

The School of Social and Human Services prepares students to work as educatiors, psychologists, lawyers and social workers.  Courses such as Child Development, Psychology, Adult Roles, Speech and Debate are integrated with English and History.  Students can teach in our on-site child development lab and in schools and child care centers in the community.  Our school participates in Region and State speech and debate tournaments.  Teacher education classes are offered to students interested in government and law areas.  CPR certifications and Weber State University credit is available.  Leadership skills are developed through FCCLA, Future Teachers of America and debate teams.
